What is the Creative Family?

Our Creative Family is an online photography community designed for thoughtful, curious photographers who want to grow through shared learning, creative challenges, and meaningful conversation. Hosted by the ICM Photo Academy, this space is rooted in ICM — but absolutely not limited to it. All forms of creative and expressive photography are welcome here. This isn’t about chasing perfection or algorithms. It’s about developing your creative voice in a supportive, inspiring environment. What you’ll experience:

Live online sessions (3 every two months): Join us for interactive photography sessions where we: Explore creative ideas and themes Share and reflect on work Offer thoughtful, constructive feedback Learn together through conversation

A guiding theme or creative challenge: Each Two-month cycle is centred around a theme, idea, or creative prompt to help you Stay inspired, Try new approaches, Build a more intentional body of work

Additional inspiration and resources: We’ll share creative prompts, reflections, and supporting material to deepen your engagement with each theme.

A dedicated online community space: You’ll be part of a private ICM Photo Academy Facebook group, where you can: Share your images, connect with like-minded photographers, and continue conversations between session

Supportive guidance from Morag and Kaisa, bringing 40+ years of combined experience to help you deepen your creative practice

A co-learning environment, where we explore, reflect, and grow together rather than follow a fixed path

Every year we will have one annual intake prior to June 1st. This year we will have a special launch offer of £111.

After June 1st you can pay monthly which costs £12.50 per month

FAQ

What kind of camera do I need? What else do I need?

You can use any camera in which you can adjust shutter speed, aperture and ISO. You may also need some photo editing software to tidy up your images. For example Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, Lightroom or Affinity Photo.

Can I use a smartphone camera? Which apps can I use?

Yes you can. If you have an iPhone, try apps like SlowShutterCam or SlowShutter. And if you have an Android, try Camera FV-5 App.

Do I need prior experience

You do not need any prior knowledge or experience you just need to know the basics of how your camera works. The Creative Family is a welcoming space for photographers and creatives of all abilities.

Will the live sessions be recorded?

Yes — live sessions will be recorded and shared afterwards, so you can catch up if you can’t attend or revisit anything in your own time.

How much time would I need to commit?

The Creative Family is designed to fit around other commitments. You can take it at your own pace, with a mix of live sessions and flexible activity between them.

Can I join from anywhere in the world?

Yes — this is open to participants wherever you’re based. We welcome people from different places, backgrounds and perspectives, and encourage you to bring your own experience into the course. We offer two different time zones for our live sessions to accommodate everyone from California to New Zealand.
